November 5th, 2015 | Broadcast

Cockburn City (AUS) defies the odds by holding Anusorn FA (THA) in the U14 4th Quarter-Finals 0 – 0 to bring the game to penalties.

A chat with members from Cockburn City revealed that the game plan was to keep themselves in the game for as long as they can, to either get to the penalties or get that odd goal on the counter.

The match is dominated by the Thais right from the start, as Anusorn FA carry out one attack after another, peppering the goal with shots. But impressive rearguard actions by the Aussies just continues to frustrate the obvious stronger team in the game. Cockburn City keeper puts on an Man of the Match performance, brought about impressive saves to keep the game alive.

The penalty shootout is perhaps the most intense yet in SingaCup2015. Both teams match each other in goals and misses. During the sudden death, Cockburn City keeper made a save, the Cockburn players & supporter erupts into celebration, but only to see the flag of the linesman raised for an infringement – the penalty have to be retaken. The Thai player redeemed himself by putting it at the back of the goal. After 1 more rounds of successful penalties, Cockburn City keeper again made the save – this time round, its counted – Cockburn City rejoiced and celebrated across the entire field and sideline.

Anusorn players are visibly distraught, with the player whom missed the final penalty inconsolable.

This match will be remembered by many as one of the classics in the SingaCup history, and like how the officiating referee put it: “A very very good game”

Cockburn City now set a date with destiny to play against the conquering Infa Lampung Timur (IDN) in the 2nd Semi-Finals, whom had defeated fellow quarter-finalist FC Metro Manila (PHI) 5-0; continuing their undefeated and winning streak.
